Did you know that the Chick-fil-a Number 1 combo has over 1,000 calories in it? That’s half my intake for an entire day.

Ew Chick-fil-a

Ain’t gonna lie, I like it. But now that I’m counting calories, I’m starting to pay attention to this stuff. People think that since it’s a chicken-like substance, it’s good for you. Nope.

SHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
![]() 02/20/2016 at 19:33 |

Isnt Chick-fil-a the fast food joint that was against de gays?
![]() 02/20/2016 at 19:34 |

But it's sooo worth it. Chick-fil-a is the best chicken sandwich you can buy.
![]() 02/20/2016 at 19:34 |

750 if you get a diet soda.
Also: worth it.

I don’t care about calories when eating chick-fil-a.
GIB CHICK-FIL-A. GIB.

I don’t usually either. And I’m not officially counting today. But one look at that tally, and I just had to say no. I got the soup and side salad instead, which was 550 calories.

Protip: The sandwich is only 440 calories.
Never eat fries. Never drink soda.
![]() 02/20/2016 at 19:38 |

I get iced tea. But that diet soda will kill you in other ways. Even if it doesn’t have sugar in it, you body still thinks it’s taking in sugar and puts your pancreas to work making insulin.

Yup.

But I like fries.....
![]() 02/20/2016 at 19:39 |

Yes. Definitely. Their chicken biscuit too. OMG.
Honorable mentions: Zaxbys and Hardees

Get soup instead of fries :)

Go look up a Chipotle burrito w/ sour cream, cheese, and guac. I’m not even going to say to include the chips and soda, its a scary number by itself.

fries are a vegetable how can they be bad
![]() 02/20/2016 at 19:43 |

C’mon, who doesn’t like fries. Especially crispy, delicious waffle fries. You’d be better off eating butter-dipped styrofoam though.
![]() 02/20/2016 at 19:43 |

It may be 1000 calories, but it’s 1000 tasty calories.

As someone British and unfamiliar with chick-fil-a, what are those potato things? I'm guessing fries, but they look like the love child of a potato waffle and a bag of mccoys crisps...

I feel compelled to share this whenever I see this reference made. Always good to hear both sides and get some additional context/insight.

Yeah, 440 really isn’t bad for breaded chicken, probably one of the lighter fast food sandwiches out there.
A McDonald’s cheeseburger is 300, but which would you rather have?
![]() 02/20/2016 at 19:47 |
|
See my reply to Bytemite. Gives a little more insight into that issue.
![]() 02/20/2016 at 19:54 |
|
Consider this: The Chic-Fil-A sandwitch has 28 grams of protein. The McCheesburger only has 15.
I’m not saying you’ll get hella swole by eating the chicken, but, shit, how many cheeseburgers is it gonna take to fill your belly?
![]() 02/20/2016 at 19:57 |

LMFAO
![]() 02/20/2016 at 19:57 |
|
Solution: I eat a light lunch (~500 calories), then I can pretty much eat whatever the fuck I want for dinner.
![]() 02/20/2016 at 19:57 |
|
Let’s get one of those. No Chick-fil-a in Cali.
![]() 02/20/2016 at 19:57 |
|
In the Bay Area many of the restaurants are required to list calorie counts on the menu. I had 4,000 calories for lunch one afternoon just to see if I could. It was depressingly easy to accomplish in hindsight.

Blasphemer!

I take it you’ve never found a perfectly intact french fry under your car seat and thought “Hey, I haven’t eaten fries in here for years...”
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:04 |

how is this surprising to anyone
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:05 |

For me, 2 or 3, whereas one Chick-Fil-A sandwich usually does it.
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:08 |

My go to at CFA is the Asian salad with spicy chicken. Not to bad on calories and tasty. I then havea bit of space to sneak some fries from the kids
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:09 |
|
I’ll trade you one Chick-fil-a (one that doesn’t serve soup year-round; some do and some don’t) for one In-n-out
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:12 |
|
Staying away from the sweet tea, right? The very first CFA is right by work. They have a full diner menu beyond a standard resteraunt. It even includes burgers and steaks. Anyway, I was in there one day while they were making the sweet tea. Holy crap the sugar.
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:12 |

I get a 12 count grilled nuggets, a side salad, and Italian dressing at Chick-fil-A. It's filling with plenty of protein and under 400 calories. Put the chicken on the salad and you have a damn good and rather healthy fast food meal
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:14 |
|
Waffle cut fries. They also for more surface area for fried crispness, ketchup and salt. They are the top of the line in French fry tech.
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:15 |

No, but I recently discovered that when the nest is empty and somebody eats something, everyone knows who ate it.
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:16 |

Several McD’s cheesburgers is a good thing.
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:17 |

You are well to remind us of that fact. @Ttyymmnn, scratch the Chick-fil-a. Do they have Five Guys in Texas?
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:17 |
|
That’s ok with my schedule I only get to eat twice a day.
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:20 |
|
Why would anyone read the nutritional information at a fast food restaurant anyway??
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:22 |
|
Not sure if I’d agree with the “top of the line” part. There are seasoned curly fries to be considered...
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:23 |
|
Now: I think In-n-Out is thoroughly overrated, though the food is of high quality — for fast food — and the employees are well paid — for fast food—. But the fries are lousy and the burgers are unremarkable.
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:23 |
|
Oh I love Hardee's! But I never get it here in Texas.
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:24 |

Imagine if we combined the technology!
I like Checkers’ fries. I think it is the pepper they put on them.
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:24 |

As long as you don’t do that daily for a month, you’ll be fine.
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:26 |

Sweet tea is of the devil. I drink unsweet tea, and very rarely drink soda.
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:28 |
|
I opted for the soup and side salad. Only 550 calories.
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:29 |

Which is why the average American looks the way they do.
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:29 |

My wife cubes potatoes, slathers them in a bit of olive oil, seasons with a bit of paprika, and bakes them on a cookie sheet.
Really
delicious. On empty nest nights, we’ll do steak and potatoes. I cook the steak (which is actually pot roast sliced and grilled in a cast iron skillet) and she does the taters, and we have broccoli. My favorite meal of all. Then Netflix and ice cream and chill. But I digress...
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:31 |
|
Yeah, so then you’re talking 600 or 900(!) calories.
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:31 |
|
Zaxbys portions are shrinking, though. My parents like it more, but Chick Fil A is my favorite.
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:39 |

Sounds like a good night. Simple food can be very good food.
![]() 02/20/2016 at 20:41 |

I’ve been eating 1500/day for a few weeks with soylent for breakfast and lunch. Add in exercise and I’ve dropped 12 pounds in 3 weeks.
I’ve basically stopped eating stuff that’s terrible for me. 1500 in 1 meal wasn’t outside of the question.
But one rule - never, and I mean never - eat in the car.
![]() 02/20/2016 at 22:05 |
|
Go for the nuggets man. Real meat, not terrible for you. Filling. I get like 20 at a time and it’s like brunch and I ain’t even trying to be hungry at dinner. PROTEIN!
![]() 02/20/2016 at 23:22 |
|
lol no Chick-fil-A here
![]() 02/21/2016 at 09:09 |
|
That’s your entire recommended daily intake of salt though. Apparently 1000-1500 is all people should be getting
![]() 02/21/2016 at 11:23 |
|
It’s the fries. Never deep fried potatoes. Never sugary drinks, either.
1000 calories would fit *two* spicy chicken sandwiches and a cup of coffee; a usual lunch for me would fit one and coffee.
Drinking coffee and water all day, you can have a McD’s sausage egg mcmuffin (470), a CfA spicy chicken sandwich (iirc 490), and eat 1040 calories worth of actual nutritious food for dinner (which can be a ludicrous amount of vegetables/fruit and a tasty protein... good god, an entire pound of raw broccoli is 160 calories)
Chick-fil-A is also, to my understanding, the only drive-through place where you can order a 170 calorie bowl of kale, fruit, and nuts.
EDIT: BTW, for the quick and simple soothing of a sweet tooth, check Food City or similar grocery for a can of ‘lite’ cherry pie filling. It’s reduced sugar without artificial sweeteners, so it’s more tart, and the entire damn 20 ounce can is 490 calories (going by their label at 7 servings X 70 calories).
![]() 02/21/2016 at 11:33 |
|
A cheeseburger may be 300, but a quarter pounder is 540, and ‘deluxe’ with real veggies lists 590 and most of that is probably mayonnaise.
I have to work it in to my counts because it’s still a bit big, but the best bang-for-buck fast food I’ve come up with is a Hardee’s 1/3lb original, hold the cheese and mayo. ~600 calories and actually tastes better because it’s usually absolutely dripping mayo... you get to taste the ingredients instead of the condiments.
I’ve been logging calories religiously (in a notebook, seriously) for 6 months now, since lunch is pretty much going to be drive-through something. Lots of tricks and traps on the menus.
![]() 02/21/2016 at 11:44 |
|
While there’s the obvious reason why I don’t want to go there, that isn’t even close to the main reason: I have easy access to Popeye’s. Popeye’s > every other fast food chicken chain. Spicy chicken strip po’ boy with extra pickles and lots of Louisiana Hot Sauce FTMFW.

Calories are a useless metric. 1000 calories of mountain dew has a profound difference on your body than 1000 calories of grass fed beef
![]() 02/21/2016 at 19:50 |
|
It’s not a useless metric if you’re eating a balanced diet of fruits, vegetables and meat protein. It is, however, useless in the example you provided.

How does the amount of heat energy in a food change the effect on the body in your example?
